PRODUCTION OF GLASS LENS

PURPOSE:To obtain an accurate product with high transferability without requiring polishing by carrying out a specified secondary pressing stage when a blank is press-formed between dies having a flat surface and a concave surface which confront each other with a spacer inbetween. CONSTITUTION:A fixed die 2 is relatively moved with respect to a movable die 1 to carry out the primary pressing of a lens blank 3 held between the dies. As this time, the flat surface of the wall 2d surrounding the flat surface 2a of the die 2 contacts with the flat surface 1b of the die 1, and the wall 2d acts as a spacer 6 between the dies 1, 2, giving a lens having a prescribed thickness and a prescribed shape. The pressed blank 3 is slowly cooled and during the cooling, the secondary pressing of the blank 3 is carried out. The flat surface 2a is formed by an outer die 7 for the peripheral part and an inner die 8 for the central part, and the die 8 can be slid in the axial direction with respect to the die 7. The die 8 is slightly moved inward during the cooling so that the blank 3 shrunk by cooling is pressed again by the surfaces of the dies. Thus, the transfer accuracy is improved.
