Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To carry out the selective dealkylation of an alkylbenzene using a specific catalyst composition prepared by adding a compound of a specific metal such as platinum to a specific crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite in the presence of ammonium ion. CONSTITUTION:The hydrogenation of ring and the decomposition of the product are suppressed, and the yield of the objective aromatic compound is increased keeping the hydrogenative dealkylation activity of the catalyst at a high level, in the vapor-phase catalytic dealkylation of an alkylbenzene in the presence of hydrogen, by using a catalyst composition containing (A) a crystalline aluminosilicate having an SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of 10-100 and the X-ray lattice spacings shown in the table-A, (B) a compound of one or more metals selected from Pt, Pd, Rh and Ir, and (C) a refractory inorganic oxide. The contents of the component A and the component B (metal) in the catalyst are 10-90wt% and 0.001-5wt%, respectively, and the component B is included in the component A in the presence of ammonium ion.
