Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To make it possible to always control the temperature of cooling water in a jacket, which should be raised upon idle operation while it is lowered upon full power operation, by providing an exhaust temperature thermostat for sensing the temperature of exhaust gas in addition to the temperature of cooling water, in a cooling water passage. CONSTITUTION:A thermostat A having a low valve opening temperature is provided in the outlet section 1a of a sea water jacket 1, and a thermostat having a high valve opening temperature is connected in series to the thermostat A. A passage 2 downstream of the thermostat A is communicated with, for example, the outside of a hull through the outlet passages 3, 4 of the thermostat B. The thermostat B is arranged to sense the temperature of exhaust gas in addition to the temperature of cooling water in the jacket, having its temperature sensing section 6 disposed in a chamber 7 which is filled with heat transmitting liquid 7'. Meanwhile the chamber 7 is adjacent to an exhaust port 9 through the intermediary of a partition wall 8, and is made into contact with cooling water in the jacket 1 through the intermediary of partition wall 10, 11. Further, the thermostat B is set such that it opens its valve when the temperature of cooling water is at its holding temperature during idle operation.
