Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a binder composition for carbonaceous material and/or ceramic material, composed of pitch and an alkoxymethyl phenolic resin, having excellent dry strength and shape-retainability at high temperature, resistant to cracking, and giving a calcined product having high strength. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be produced by mixig (A) a coal- or petroleumbased pitch with (B) an alkoxymethyl phenolic resin having a number average molecular weight of 100-2,000, containing >=0.2 alkoxymethyl group per one phenol uncleus and obtained by (1) reacting a phenol with an aldehyde in the presence of an alkaline catalyst, (2) alkoxylating the reaction product with an alcohol in the presence of an acidic catalyst, and (3) subjecting to dehydration and dealcoholation processes, at a weight ratio (A:B) of 1:9-9:1, preferably 3:7-7:3 under heating and stirring, and if necessary, diluting the mixture with a solvent.
