Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having superior S/N ratio and high still durability and hardly causing drop-out while maintaining the surface smoothness of the magnetic layer by incorporating nonmagnetic abrasive particles having a specified average particle size and a specified particle size distribution into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:Nonmagnetic abrasive particles having 0.3-0.8mum average particle size and including particles of >=1mum particle size by 5-30wt% is incorporated into a magnetic layer. The abrasive particles have a wider particle size distribution than conventional particles and 0.3-0.8mum average particle size and include particles of >=1mum particle size by 5-30wt%, so the abrasive particles can be controlled so that sufficient performance is shown with respect to not only still durability but also S/N ratio and drop-out. Since the proper particle size range is selected, the surface of the magnetic powder can be kept smooth.
