Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To produce the objective compound having light color and high polymerization degree, by the addition reaction of glycidol to a (poly)glycerol using a catalyst consisting of a cation exchange resin having sulfonic acid group as the exchange group, at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:A cation exchange resin having sulfonic acid group as the exchange group, preferably sulfonated styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer is used as a catalyst for the addition reaction of glycidol to glycerol or polyglycerol at 110-120 deg.C. A polyglycerol having light color, high polymerization degree and narrow polymerization degree distribution, purifiable easily, and useful as a raw material of food emulsifier, cosmetic humectant, plasticizer, surfactant, etc., especially as a raw material of an O/W-type emulsion for food additive, can be prepared by this process. The amount of the catalyst is preferably 0.01-0.1pt. per 1pt. of glycerol.
