AUTOMATIC TRACKING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To avoid deterioration of picture quality and instability of pattern by forming an optimum jumping drive signal from each envelope output at a nearly 1/2 period of a ringing frequency component and a prescribed point of time near said point. CONSTITUTION:The envelope of a ringing frequency component obtained just after the end of jump reflects nearly accurately on a deviation of a head H to a reproducing track. Thus, a voltage control circuit 30 is provided to a rectangular wave generator 23, the quantity of each envelope output at a point (a) at nearly 1/2 period of the ringing frequency component and at prescribed point of times (b, c) before and after the point (a) is compared and a prescribed voltage control signal is generated from the voltage gate circuit 30 based on the output. Thus, deterioration of picture quality and instability of pattern are avoided entirely.
