MAGNETIC HEAD FOR VERTICAL MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING

PURPOSE:To make a magnetic head small-sized and light-weight by providing a pair of an auxiliary magnetic pole arranged in the outside edge part of a magnetic recording medium and a main magnetic pole which can be moved along the surface of the magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:When a write current is flowed to a coil 7, an auxiliary magnetic pole 2 is magnetized, and its magnetic field is concentrated to a main magnetic pole 1 by a high permeability layer 5. Consequently, residual magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the surface of a recording medium 3 occurs in a magnetic recording thin film 6 just under the main magnetic pole 1 even after the write current to the coil 7 is broken, and it is recorded as information. When the magnetic field of the auxiliary magnetic pole 2 is inverted in accordance with the direction of the write current, magnetization of the main magnetic pole 1 is inverted, and the direction of residual magnetization of the magnetic recording thin film 6 is inverted. Thus, the recording medium 3 is rotated and residual magnetization is inverted in case of reproducing of recorded information to obtain reproduced information as a voltage signal generated by the coil 7.
