Zusammenfassung:NEW MATERIAL:A naphthol derivative expressed by formula (R represents methyl, ethyl or benzyl). EXAMPLE:2-Benzyl-4-benzyloxy-1-hydroxynaphthalene. USE:A developer or a sensitizer for thermal printing materials. PREPARATION:1,4-Dihydroxynaphthalene as a starting raw material is reacted with the corresponding alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst to form a monoether thereof, which is reacted with a benzyl halide in an aqueous solvent in the coexistence of an alkaline substance, followed by adding an acid to deposit the resultant reaction product therewith and obtain quantitatively the compound expressed by the formula.
