Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:A compound of therformula [C(=O)-Z is reactive derivative of carboxyl group]. EXAMPLE:N-Succinimidyl-p-(2-nitrovinyl)-benzoate. USE:Difunctional crosslinking agent: it is used to bind a compound bearing an amino group with another compound bearing a thiol group. PREPARATION:The reaction of p-(2-nitrovinyl)benzoic acid with 2,4-dinitrophenol derivative or N-hydroxysuccinimide derivative is carried out in a solvent such as THF or DMF in the presence of a dehydrating agent such as dicyclohexylcarbodiimide to give the compound of the formula. The compound of the formula is used to combine, e.g., peptides or steroids.
