MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To make head scanning positions coincident at recording and reproducing state by constituting a rotary head reproducing a pilot signal so as to make the reproducing sensitivity of the pilot signal from both adjacent tracks different. CONSTITUTION:The rotary heads 3.1, 3.2 are constituted that an air gap having a long air gap length different in air gap with is provided to both sides of an air gap with a short air gap length. Then the reproducing level of the pilot reproducing signal reproduced from the left adjacent track is increased by a prescribed amount in comparison with the reproduced level of the pilot signal from the right adjacent track, the reproducing head center is shifted by DELTAT/2 from the main track center. Then, two difference voltage signals different in polarity are outputted from a differential amplifier 35 and fed to gate circuits 36, 37. Then a correct tracking error signal is obtained by gating the circuits 36, 37 for a prescribed period. Thus, the scanning position at recording and reproduction is made coincident.
