Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To enable a highly accurate measurement of thickness by determining densities of the atmosphere during and before the passage between a radiation source and a radiation detector separately to correct errors which will be caused by possible changes in the density and affects measured values. CONSTITUTION:Thermometers 41 and 42 are provided between a radiation source 1 and a sample 2 to be measured and the sample 2 and a radiation detector 3 respectively. The detection level It of radiation during the passage through the sample 2 being measured and atmosphere air temperatures T1 and T2 between the radiation source 1 and the sample 2 and the sample 2 and the radiation detector 3 are measured separately. Based on the detection level of radiation It, the thickness (t) is computed by the formula 1. The air densities R1(T1) and R2(T2) respectively at the air temperatures T1 and T2 are computed and the air density Ri(Ti) is used to compute thicknesses t1' and t2' of air layers equivalent to steel plate. The true thickness ttrue is determined by the formula 3. |
