DEVICE FOR COOLING V-ENGINE

PURPOSE:To equalize a pair of front and rear banks in the efficiency of cooling, by placing the banks in a front and a rear positions in the direction of proceeding of a vehicle, inclining the banks at a prescribed angle, and making the quantity of cooling water for the front bank smaller than that for the rear bank. CONSTITUTION:A pair of banks 2, 3 are disposed on a V-engine, in a front and a rear positions in the direction of proceeding of a vehicle, and inclined at a prescribed angle. A water pump 8 is provided nearly in the center of the V-engine, between the banks 2, 3, in such a manner that a pump chamber 20 is defined by the walls of cylinder blocks 2a, 3a and a pump housing 19 and a rotary shaft 21 is supported on bearings 22, 23. An impeller 24 is secured on the rotary shaft 21 to supply cooling water to the inlet passages 15, 16 of the banks 2, 3. The inlet passage 16 communicating with the front cylinder block 3a has a smaller cross-sectional area than the inlet passage 15 communicating with the rear cylinder block 2a.
