CONSTITUTION:A cavity 2a in the upper part of a piston 2 forms in a cylinder 1 a combustion chamber into which fuel is injected through a unit injector 4. A combined intake and exhaust port is provided and controlled to be opened and closed by a combined intake and exhaust valve 6. While two passages are connected to the port, and an intake passage 15 branches from an exhaust passage 14. Exhaust gas is prevented from mixing in intake air by providing a guide plate 18 to be formed in the vicinity of a branch part.
