COATING OF METALLIC MOLD FOR CASTING IRON ALLOY

PURPOSE:To extend the life of a metallic mold and to improve the productivity of a casting by using the metallic mold after a fiber fabric consisting of alumina, silica or magnesia having heat resistance at high temp. is adhered to said mold by means of a silica base binder. CONSTITUTION:The melt of a ferrous alloy is high in temp. and wears heavily a metallic mold. The part where the molten metal flows has not substantial adhesion strength with the conventional thick coating of the mold. If a fiber fabric consisting of alumina, silica, etc. and having heat resistance at high temp. is adhered to the metallic mold by means of silica base binder and is used as a mold coating material, the life of not only the part right under the sprue where the mold is heavily worn but also the part where the molten metal flows is extended and the productivity of the casting is improved.
