Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To produce magnetic powder having a high saturation magnetization and remanence, by heat-treating magnetitie and/or maghemite in an atmosphere of an inert gas. CONSTITUTION:Goethite is dehydrated at 500-700 deg.C for 0.5-6hr in an atmosphere of a gas containing oxygen to give hematite, which is then reduced at 300-500 deg.C for 1-6hr in an atmosphere of a reducing gas to afford magnetite. The resultant magnetite is oxidized at 200-500 deg.C in an atmosphere of a gas, e.g. air, inert to the magnetite for 0.5-6hr to give maghemite, which is then heat-treated at 200-550 deg.C in an atmosphere of a gas, e.g. Ar, inert to the maghemite for 1-20hr.
