Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:A nitroalcohol derivative expressed by formula I (R1 is expressed by formula II-VIII; X is H, C1-4 alkyl or halogen; R2 is H or C1-4 alkyl). EXAMPLE:1-Nitro-3,3-dimethyl-4-phenyl-2-butanol. USE:A soil germicide, effective for damping-off of either one of the genuses Pythium and Rhizoctinia, and capable of exhibiting improved effect on clubroot, sterilizing in a short time and rapid planting. PREPARATION:Nitromethane is subjected to the aldol condensation with an aldehyde in the presence of an alkali or a compound obtained by the aldol condensation is brominated to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I .
