Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To enable to execute feedback control of the air-fuel ratio even when the output level of an air-fuel ratio sensor is lowered, by altering the slice level determined by the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor once when rich/lean inversion is not indicated to the slice level. CONSTITUTION:In a comparing means 2, the output signal of an air-fuel ratio sensor 1 which produces a signal representing the air-fuel ratio of mixture supplied to an engine E is compared with a predetermined slice level (SL). According to the result of comparison in said comparing means 2, the air-fuel ratio of mixture is adjusted by an air-fuel ratio adjusting means 3. Here, if it is detected by a non-inversion detecting means 4 that the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor 1 is not inverted to the slice level for a predetermined while, the slice level is altered by a slice-level altering means 5. Further, if the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor 1 is not inverted to the altered slice level for a predetermined while, feedback control of the air-fuel ratio is interrupted by a feedback control interrupting means 6.
