Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To attain the recording and reproduction of a wide-band signal without reducing extremely the length of a gap by forming a straight line at an end of the gap length direction and forming a gap having a magnetic slope where the magnetic sensitivity increases from said end to the other end of said gap length direction. CONSTITUTION:For the form of a gap G, a straight line of the boundary line direction in the magnetization inverting direction of a medium surface is formed at an end B of the gap length direction. Then a magnetic slope is formed so that the area at the side of a magnetic pole A, i.e., the magnetic sensitivity increases from the end B to the other end A. With reproduction of such a head 6, only the end B is effective and the end A is not effective. Therefore the points R1 and R3 where the magnetization in a recording medium (a) is changed to an ascending direction form a descending direction form the waveforms of a figure (c); while the opposite points R2 and R4 form the waveforms of a figure (d) respectively. A synthetic output waveform is shown in a figure (e). As a result, a wide-band signal can be recorded and reproduced without reducing extremely the gap length.
