Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To inhibit the deterioration of the base material of a holding jig for heat treatment and to prolong the service life of the jig by successively forming a layer of a solid soln. of iron having a coefft. of thermal expansion close to that of the base material of the jig and a dense compound layer for preventing the penetration of carbon and nitrogen on the surface of the jig. CONSTITUTION:A holding jig for heat treatment made of heat resistant cast steel, heat resistant steel or the like with high strength at high temp. and high creep strength at high temp. is buried in fine ferrochrome particles and heated in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to carry out chromizing. A layer of a solid soln. of Fe-Cr having a coefft. of thermal expansion close to that of the base material of the jig is formed on the surface of the base material, and a dense Cr compound layer of 20-30mum thickness is formed on the solid soln. layer. The layers prevent the penetration of carbon and nitrogen, and inhibit the surface cracking of the jig due to repeated use to prolong the life of the jig.
