Zusammenfassung: | A sintered ceramic characterised in that it comprises aiuminium titanate and mullite as the predominant crystal phases, it exhibits grain boundary and intracrystalline microcracking, high refractoriness, excellent thermal shock resistance, a coefficient of thermal expansion (R.T. -1000 DEG C) of less than 25 x 10 / DEG C when sintered at temperatures of 1400 DEG C and higher, a modulus of rupture of greater than 2500 psi (1.7 x 10 Pa; 175 kg/sq cm) when sintered at 1400 DEG C and greater than 5000 psi (3.4 x 10 Pa; 351 kg/sq cm) when sintered at 1500 DEG C and it comprises (in terms of weight percent) from 60 to 75% Al2O3, from 15 to 35% TiO2 and from 1 to 16.5% SiO2 is disclosed.
