Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain an L-tryptophan derivative useful as a drug, etc. advantageously, by treating a culture solution of a bacterium belonging to the genus Achromobacter, capable of producing tryptophanase with an indole derivative, pyruvic acid and ammonia. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium (e.g., Achromobacter liquidum OUT8012) belonging to the genus Achromobacter, capable of producing tryptophanase, is cultivated in a medium containing L-tryptophan. The prepared culture solution, a mold isolated from the culture solution, or a treated material of the mold is treated with an indole derivative shown by the formula I (at least one of R , R , R , R and R is lower alkyl, carboxyl, halogen, and the others are H), pyruvic acid and ammonia, to give an L-tryptophan derivative shown by the formula II, which is collected, to give the desired L-tryptophan derivative.
