A plasma polymer film of saturated hydrocarbon is formed on the surface of a ferromagnetic thin film containing Co provided on a film supporter F while the supporter F set between electrodes 3 and 3 is dent to a take-up roll 6B from a supply roll 6A. Thus it is possible to obtain a magnetic recording medium having a small spacing loss between a head and a magnetic layer and contains a protection film that excels in the anticorrosive performance, the driving performance and the durability. Furthermore a lubricant of the higher fatty acid, its ester, etc. can be applied on the protection film.
