MANUFACTURE OF GAS DISCHARGE DISPLAY PANEL

PURPOSE:To obtain a highly reliable high quality gas discharge panel by performing evacuation, baking, recharging, etc. in a container having pressure higher than that in discharge space of gas discharge display panel while lower than the atmospheric pressure. CONSTITUTION:At first, a gas discharge display panel 21 is placed in a container 28. Then a gas supply valve 26 and a leak valve 34 are closed while discharge valves 23, 41 are opened to drive vacuum pumps 24, 32 thus to evacuate the panel 1 and the container 28. Under this state, a heater 29 in the container 28 is functioned to maintain the temperature in the container 28 approximately at 350 deg.C to bake the panel 21 for several hours. Thereafter, the temperature of the heater 29 is lowered to normal level to close the discharge valves 23, 31 while to open the valves 26, 34 thus to fill the panel 21 with discharge gas from a gas cylinder 27 filled with discharge gas mainly composed of Ne and to feed the atmospheric air into the container 28 to bring such condition where the interior of the container 28 is pressurized against the discharge space of the panel 21 thus to fill the panel 21 with discharge gas.
