Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R represents H, lower alkyl or benzyl; R represents lower alkyl or phenyl; X represents H, halogen atom, lower alkyl, phenoxyl or halogenophenoxyl; Y represents H or lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:2-Acetylthiomethyl-3-benzoylpropionic acid. USE:Useful as a remedy for a disease caused by deficiency in an immunological function such as rheumarthritis, autoimmune disease, cancer, asthma, etc., having an excellent immunoregulating function with low side effects and low toxicity. PREPARATION:A carboxylic acid compound expressed by formula II is dissolved in an organic solvent such as methanol, added with 1-2 equivalents carbothiolic acid expressed by the formula R COSH, and reacted at -20-50 deg.C for 0.5-24hr in the presence of 0.01-0.1 equivalent basic catalyst to obtain the compound expressed by formula I.
