MANUFACTURE OF COMPOSITE METALLIC WIRE

PURPOSE:To improve adhesion of a thick-walled covering layer and core wire by covering a core wire with powder of soft metal by pressure welding using a drawing die, and drawing after covering with a tubular body or tape of the same soft metal. CONSTITUTION:A metallic core wire of relatively large tensile strength is heated to oxidize the surface. Powder of reductive soft metal is suck to the core wire by reduction, and die drawing is made under the state where a large quantity of metallic powder is stuck by utilizing frictional adhesion. The core wire covered with metallic powder thus obtained is further covered with a tube or tape of the same soft metal, and drawn at a desired diameter. By this method, the soft metal of thick film is stuck tightly to the core wire metal in a low working ratio, and adhesion is improved.
