Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:A 1,3-dioxane expressed by formula I (X is naphthyl or tetrahydronaphthyl; R is H or alkyl). EXAMPLE:2-(1'-Naphthyl)-2-methyl-4-isopropyl-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxane. USE:An impregnant for insulating paper capable of miniaturizing condensers, various heat media, lubricating oils, sealing compounds, electric insulating oils, etc. PREPARATION:A carbonyl compound expressed by formula II is reacted with 2, 2,4-trimethyl 1,3-pentanediol in the presence of an esterification catalyst in an organic solvent while performing azeotropic dehydration to give easily the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The above-mentioned compound is thermally very stable, and has a high dielectric constant and high boiling point. Therefore, the compound is useful for the above-mentioned applications.
