Zusammenfassung:NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I [R1 is carboxyl or lower alkyl which may be substituted with protected carboxyl; Z is -SR (R is alkyl, aralkyl, aryl), halogen] and its salt. EXAMPLE:2-( 2-Amino-4-hydroxy-2-thiazolin-4-yl )-2-( syn )-methoxyiminothioacetic-S-methyl ester. USE:A synthetic intermediate of cephalosporin having high antibiotic action. PREPARATION:A compound of formula V (X is halogen; wavy line is a syn or anti isomers or a mixture thereof) is allowed to react with thiourea to give the compound of formula I b (the syn isomer) in the form of crystals and the unreacting anti isomer of formula V is combined with a dried acid such as hydrogen chloride to effect isomerization into the syn isomer. Then, the above cyclization is effected to obtain only the syn isomer easily.
