Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:Di-t-butyl fumarate of the formula. USE:A starting material of unsaturated polyester or alkyd resin. A monomer for radical copolymerization of butadiene, isobutene, ethylene, vinyl acetate. The fumarate ester is more reactive in radical copolymerization than maleic diesters, further it can polymerize solely. PREPARATION:Maleic anhydride and phthalic anhydride are allowed to react with an alkali metal salt of tert-butyl alcohol (alkoxide) in a solvent such as benzene or n-hexane to effect esterification or the addition reaction between fumaric acid and isobutene is carried out in an autoclave in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as sulfuric acid in a solvent such as THF to give the objective compound.
