PURPOSE:To provide a printer capable of printing in the condition wherein an ink layer and a printing material are in close contact with each other and capable of transferring with favorable dot reproducibility and low energy, wherein a previously charged heat-fusible ink layer is thermally transferred onto a printing material in an electric field. CONSTITUTION:First, a recording sheet 41 comprising a heat-fusible ink layer 44 and a base film 45 is electrically charged by a charger 43. Then, for example, by a power source 49 for generating an electric field, an electric field for moving a heat-fusible ink toward the printing material 42 such as a recording paper is generated between a thermal head 40 and a conductive support base 48, and in the electric field thus generated, the charged ink is melted by the heat generated by the head 40, and dots 46 are transferred onto the printing material 42.
