PURPOSE:To perform stable feature extration by code labeling the video information of input character lines by directions, counting the stroke line density number which is the number of groups of this label and extracting the feature of the character. CONSTITUTION:The video information of input character lines is code-labeled 2 by each direction, and this code label information is stored 3-6 by each direction. The number of the groups of the code ladel information stored by directions is counted 8, and the standard stroke line density number of a dictionary 10 wherein stroke line densities have beforehand been counted by each direction and the stroke line density number of the input characters are collated 9 with each direction.
