Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To simplify measuring operation and to attain the enhancement of accuracy, by changing direct bilirubin to biliverdine in the presence of bilirubin oxidase and calculating the amount of direct bilirubin on the basis of the reduction in the absorbancy thereof in a characteristic absorbing band. CONSTITUTION:Direct bilirubin in serum is changed to biliverdine in the presence of bilirubin oxidase occuring from a bacterium belonging to a Mirothecium genus and the amount of direct bilirubin is calculated from the reduction in the absorbancy of bilirubin in a characteristic absorbing band with the advance of the reaction. On the other hand, with respect to indirect bilirubin, a reaction reagent such as sodium cholate is added to change indirect bilirubin to direct bilirubin and, thereafter, the similar reaction as direct bilirubin is generated to calculate indirect bilirubin and a total bilirubin is calculated.
