Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized picture reader with good operability by providing two rows of photoelectric converting sections at prescribed intervals to constitute a sensor and providing a light source lighting the sensor from the back side of a substrate to attain picture reading. CONSTITUTION:The photoelectric converting sections 8a, 8b consist of a transparent base plate 1 made of glass, a light shield layer, individual electrode 3, photo-semiconductors 4a, 4b, common electrode 6 and a protecting layer 7. Then the photoelectric converting sections 8a, 8b are constituted respectively into two rows, they form the sensor section 9 as a whole and the light source 10 is provided at the back side of the base plate 1. The sensor section 9 having the converting sections 8a, 8b with the constitution above is used and the entire device is shifted relatively to an original P by manual feeding operation in the direction of the arrow X. In order to prevent the distortion in characters due to the change in the manual feeding speed V in this case, the converting sections 8a, 8b are provided as two rows at a prescribed interval as mentioned above so as to detect the manual feeding speed V. In such a way, the information obtained by the photo-semiconductor 4a is thinned and the scanning speed of the photo-semiconductor 4b is changed.
