METHOD FOR STORING NAPHTHALENE

PURPOSE:To prevent the settling and depositing of sludges in storing naphthalene containing settling sludges in a liquid state in a tank, by charging the tank with a heavy oil having a higher specific gravity than the naphthalene. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalene containing settling sludges is stored in a liquid state in a tank by charging the tank with a heavy oil having a higher specific gravity than the naphthalene without settling the sludges. A methylnaphthalene fraction, having a higher boiling point than naphthalene fraction, and obtained by distilling and purifying a coal tar based naphthalene oil fraction is preferred for the above-mentioned heavy oil. The amount of the heavy oil to be used is preferably 1-1.5m based on 10m recovered naphthalene if the naphthalene is a recovered naphthalene recovered from a vaporizer in a phthalic acid production plant. EFFECT:Operation for removing sludges is not required, and trouble, e.g. clogging of piping, is eliminated. The melting point of the naphthalene in the tank is lowered to save energy in storing.
