CONSTITUTION:A variant belonging to the genus Brevibacterium, having resistance to a cell wall inhibitory antibiotic, capable of producing 5'-xanthylic acid, obtained by subjecting Brevibacterium ammoniagenes ATCC21075 to ordinary variation induction, followed by cultivating it in an agar plate medium containing a cell wall inhibitory antibiotic, is cultivated in an ordinary fermentation medium, and 5'-xanthylic acid is formed and accumulated in the culture solution.
