FORMATION OF SPACER

PURPOSE:To uniform the thickness of an insulating spacer and reduce a spread of resin at the bottom part by forming the insulating spacer by using a plastic film provided with a transparent conductive layer and a mixture of a constructing agent such as SiO2 particulates and insulator ink for screen printing. CONSTITUTION:The insulator ink for screen printing obtained by mixing glass beads, SiO2 fine powder, plastic beads, etc., of a 10-50mum grain diameter as the constructing agent with a polyester thermosetting resin solution (e.g. ''Vylon'' S made by TOYO BOSEKI KK) is used for spacer formation. For example, this ink is printed on a transparent conductive film formed by sputtering In2O3. SnO2, etc., on a polyethylene terephthalate film through a metallic mask which has etching holes of 0.3mm.phi at 3.5mm. pitch, and dried and set thermally to form the uniform-thickness spacer which has superior outward appearance without any spread of resin at the bottom part. Thus, the spacer used for electrodes of a liquid-crystal display device, etc., is formed.
