Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To control oxygen concentration in combustion exhaust gas, by a method wherein the set value of an air-fuel ratio is calculated moment by moment by the use of a model formula during a specified time which elapses after completion of switching of fuel gas to control a flow rate of the air. CONSTITUTION:At a point of time when switching of fuel gas in the combustion chamber in a coke oven is completed, i.e., during a specified time which elapses after a time t4 when switching of fuel gas to other combustion chamber is completed, an air-fuel ratio is calculated moment by moment by the use of a model formula. A flow rate of the air is controlled to provide the calculated air-fuel ratio. This enables oxygen concentration in exhaust gas which has been increased by the time the switching of fuel gas is completed to be decreased to a range within a desired value in a short time.
