BIT HOLDER AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

The tool holder (1) made of heat- and rust-resistant steel has a hole (2) for receiving a tool. The base (3) of the tool holder (1) is joined to the main body (5) of a gib head by welding, the tool holder having at least in the region of the base part (3) a sheath applied by build-up welding and made of readily weldable steel. Said sheath (4) extends over not more than half the height of the tool holder (1) and consists of ferritic or austenitic steel with a wall thickness of 0.5 to 10 mm. That subregion of the base (4) of the tool holder (1) on which the build-up welding is applied is formed in the region of said build-up welding so as to be reduced by the thickness of the build-up welding before the build-up welding.
