TEST PAPER FOR DETECTING ETHANOL

PURPOSE:To enable inexpensive and distinct indication of the presence of ethanol in a packaging case without any harm in food sanitation by coloring a part of sheet-like absorbent paper with a soln. of a red natural color thereby forming a colored part. CONSTITUTION:The phenomenon in which the monascus red extracted from red malt bacteria as an edible natural dye soluble in ethanol is solid in the ordinary atm. contg. no ethanol and dissolves extremely easily when a very slight amt. of ethanol is added thereto is applied for this test paper 1 for detecting ethanol. Said paper is constituted by forming a part 3 colored with the ethanol soln. of monascus red and dried on absorbent paper 2 obtd. by processing a highly water absorbent resin. The test paper 1, i.e., 14, in the state of use is sealed together with an ethanol impregnating agent 13 generating ethanol vapor and a content, i.e., food 12, into a case 11 and the mouth thereof is closed. Then the ethanol vapor generated in the case dissolves gradually the monascus red and develops and colors over the entire surface of this paper 14, thus indicating extremely distinctly the presence of ethanol.
