COMPOSITION FOR ORAL CAVITY

PURPOSE:A composition, containing N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)amino acid or a salt thereof further an anionic surfactant, and capable of exhibiting improved antimicrobial action on bacteria in the oral cavity, suppressing the formation of sordes on teeth and preventing dental caries and periodontoses. CONSTITUTION:A composition for the oral cavity containing a compound of the formula (R is amino acid residue), e.g. N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-L-proline, in an amount of 0.0005-5wt%, preferably 0.001-0.1wt%. The compound of the formula has remarkable germicidal activity against bacteria in the oral cavity and is capable of exhibiting the germecidal activity thereof fully without deactivating even in use with an anionic surfactant. The composition is used in the form of a dentifrice, mouthwash, gingiva message cream, liquid or pasty local embrocation, troche, chewing gum or tablet for gargling, etc.
