Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To enable suppression of deterioration with time and to improve a magnetic characteristic by forming a magnetic layer of needlelike particles contg. iron carbide. CONSTITUTION:Needlelike particles contg. iron carbide are dispersed together with a binder in an org. solvent to prepare a magnetic paint. Said paint is coated on a base and is dried to form a magnetic layer on a base body. The needlelike particles have usually >=3 average axial ratio of primary particles and usually =2 kinds thereof. The iron carbide incorporated at >=20wt% in the needlelike particles is preferable as the needlelike particles have >=450Oe coercive force. The magnetic recording medium having high coercive force, high quantity of magnetization and high residual magnetic flux density which is hardly deteriorated with time is thus obtd.
