Zusammenfassung:	NEW MATERIAL:The androstane-5,7-diene derivative of formula (R is H or OH- protecting group). EXAMPLE:1alpha,3beta-Dihydroxyandrosta-5,7-dien-17-one. USE:Synthetic intermediate of vitamin D compound having OH at 1alpha-position, e.g. 1alpha-hydroxycholecalciferol, 1alpha,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol, 1alpha,24-hydroxycholecalciferol, etc. PREPARATION:For example, 1alpha,3beta-diacetoxyandrost-5-en-17-one is made to react with preferably 1-2 times equivalent of an arylbrominating agent (e.g. N- bromosuccinimide), and hydrolyzing the resultant 7-brominated compound with alcoholic alkali hydroxide by a conventional method.
