Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To produce the titled material of high-temperature hydrophobic type having possible use as a light-screening body, adsorbent, coating agent, printing agent, water-based adhesive, or the like, by radical-polymerizing N-cyclopropyl (meth)acrylamide in a solution state. CONSTITUTION:A polymer of the formula (wherein R is H or CH3) which is soluble in water at low temperature and insoluble in water at high temperature in a reversible manner is produced by dissolving N-cyclopropylacrylamide and/or N-cyclopropylmethacrylamide in a solvent such as water, an alcohol or benzene to form a solution of a monomer concentration of, usually, 1-80wt% and heating the resulting solution or irradiating it with gamma-rays or light in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator. The obtained aqueous poly(N-cyclopropylacrylamide) solution has a transition temperature of 45 deg.C and the obtained saqueous poly(N-cyclopropylmethacrylamide) solution has a transition temperature of 60 deg.C. Because of their thermal reversibility, they can be used in a variety of fields including light-screening body, adsorbent, coating agents, printing agents, water-based adhesives, etc.
