FLOATING CHARACTERISTIC MEASURING DEVICE OF MAGNETIC HEAD

PURPOSE:To find out a write/read head unstable to the floating charactristic in the positioning direction by measuring the floating characteristic from the change in a signal level difference beween different frequencies obtained by a floating head. CONSTITUTION:A read amplifier 7 amplifies a read data signal and outputs filter circuits 8, 9. An f1 frequency component only passes through the filter 8 out of data signals, a level detection circuit 10 detects the level and an output signal 1 is outputted to a comparator circuit 12. On the other hand, the filter circuit 9 passes only an f2 frequency component, the level is detected by a level detection circuit 11 and an output signal 2 is outputted to the comparator circuit 12. The comparator circuit 12 compares the level of f1 frequency with the level of f2 frequency and an output signal 3 being the difference is outputted. The output signal 3 is outputted with a nearly prescribed output level normally when there is no problem, and a write/read head 6 having an unstable factor has a part changed suddenly, then it is decided as a write/read head having an unstable factor to the floating characteristic in the positioning direction.
