Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To aim at reducing the fuel consumption rate of an engine and increasing the high output power thereof, by creating a sufficiently strong swirl in an intake port with no use of an intake control valve. CONSTITUTION:An intake port 10 is extended to an intake-air manifold which is not shown, through first and second intake valves 1, 2 without being branched in the intermediate section thereof as in conventional engines. The intake port 10 just upstream of the second intake valve 2 is linear but eccentric from the center axis 16 of the cylinder. The first intake valve 1 is shifted from the tangential line B which is taken from the center line of the intake port 10 with respect to the second intake valve 2, toward the center axis 16 of the cylinder. An intake port 10a which is communicated with the first intake valve 1 is a herical port which may create a strong swirl in intake-air stream.
