Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To shorten the total length of a distribution-type fuel injection pump and lengthen the life of an accumulator, by placing the accumulator in a direction crossing the axial direction of a plunger. CONSTITUTION:An accumulator 25 is placed in a direction crossing the axial direction of a plunger 4, so that the accumulator does not protrude in front of a distributing head 2. An accumulation chamber 47 is separated from a pressure feed pump chamber 12 and connected thereto through a feed passage 42 and an introducing passage 53 so that a shutoff valve 36 can be installed in a part for connecting the passages 42, 53. When the accumulator 25 is not used, the high pressure of fuel caused in the pressure feed pump chamber 12 is blocked from the accumulation chamber 47 by the shutoff valve 36.
