BILLET SUPPORT DEVICE FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING MACHINE

PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which permits an easy operation in changing width during casting and obviates generation of any defect in a billet by constituting plural billet guide members of a forward and backward moving mechanism provided below the short side of a mold in such a way that said members can be independently moved back and forth orthogonally to the drawing direction of the billet. CONSTITUTION:A billet support device 6 consisting of three hydraulic cylinders 7, etc. attached to a support body 9 is provided below a movable wall 3 on a short side provided with a cylinder 4 of a mold 1. Each cylinder 7 is constituted of a cylinder tube 72 which is born by a guide bushing 11 and is made movable back and forth in the direction of a billet 10 and a rod 71 fixed on the side opposite from the billet 10 and a roll 12 as a billet guide member is mounted to the tube 72. When the width of the billet is changed, the respective rolls 12 of the cylinders 7 support independently the tapered part of the ingot 10 formed according to the movement of the above-mentioned wall 3 in follow up to the billet 10 whereby the generation of any defect in the ingot 10 is prevented and the width changing operation is accomplished easily without decreasing the drawing speed.
