SURFACE TREATMENT OF PLASTIC

PURPOSE:To enhance the adhesion of a plating to the surface of a plastic, by treating the plastic with a surface-treating agent prepared by emulsifying, in water, a water-insoluble organic solvent which swells or dissolves the plastic. CONSTITUTION:A plastic is treated with a surface-treating agent based on an emulsifier prepared by emulsifying, in water, a water-insoluble organic solvent which swells or dissolves the plastic. The plastic to which this process is applicable include, for example, polycarbonate resin, ABS resin, polyphenylene oxide resin, and polystyrene resin. Although the above water-insoluble organic solvent is suitable selected according to the kind of a plastic to be treated, normally liquid solvents, especially, aromatic solvents such as benzene, toluene and chlorobenzene are used suitably.
