NEW MATERIAL:A N-substituted moranoline derivative of the formula (X is propylene or propenylene group). EXAMPLE:N-Phenylpropylmoranoline. USE:Preventives or remedies for diseases, e.g. diabetes mellitus, or its prodrome, hyperlipemia, arteriosclerosis, corpulence, cardiopathies such as myocardial infarction, gastroenteric disorder, such as gastritis, gastric ulcer, or duodenal ulcer, due to hyperglycemia, having hypoglycemic actions. PROCESS:Moranoline is reacted with a reagent, e.g. an aralkyl halide, aralkenyl halide, or aralkylsulfonate, having an active aralkyl or aralkenyl group, in a polar solvent, e.g. water, an alcohol, DMSO, DMF, cellosolve, or glyme, in the presence of a deacidification agent at room temperature or above to give the compound of formula.
