Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To realize the high-speed recording with a low level of laser power and at the same time to improve the reproduction S/N, by using a thermoelectric effect element to heat up or cool a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A turntable 11 is formed by providing a thermoelectric effect element insulated by ceramics on an aluminum plate 12 and then forming an aluminum film 14 on the element 13. A substrate 1 is put on the table 11 so as to obtain a contact for a magnetic thin film 2 which functions as a recording medium. When a current (5A) is flowed to the element 13 in a recording time, the temperatures of recording media 1 and 2 rise up about 60 deg.C. Then the recording laser power is reduced down to half, and therefore the high-speed recording is possible with a low level of a laser power. While the current is reversed in a reproduction time to cool the temperature of the laser irradiated of the medium 2 down to a level equivalent to a room temperature. As a result, the reproduction S/N is improved by about 60%.
